Particle Slam

Planning to invest in a new website or web application but afraid you'll get it wrong?

Before you commit to a developer or agency, make sure you're getting the right solution, not what someone wants to sell you.

Hello , I'm Colin. I help business owners and executives who aren't tech experts navigate the world of web development without feeling like they've just landed on an alien planet.

I ensure you get honest answers, realistic proposals, and the exact solution your business needs.

Here's the problem:

You know your business needs a new website or web app. You've done your research, and you're ready to move forward. But from vendor selection to delivery, the obstacles just keep coming…

  • You get proposals that might as well be written in a foreign language.
  • Agencies push complex, trendy tech solutions when you just need something that works.
  • You're never sure whether you're being overcharged or getting a fair deal.
  • Your website or web app loads like it’s on dial-up internet in 1995, especially on phones.
  • You break accessibility laws you didn't even know existed (hello European regulations !).
  • Updating content feels like trying to cancel a gym membership.
  • Your site looks great, but it doesn't generate the leads or sales you expected.

There is a better way:

What if the entire process was actually simple, transparent, and focused on what matters to your business and your users?

  • Proposals are translated into something you can actually understand and compare.
  • You get exactly what your business needs, built with “boring” tech that just works.
  • You know you're getting value for money, not getting gouged.
  • Your website or app is lightning-fast and works perfectly on every device.
  • You launch with full accessibility built in from day one (legally compliant and inclusive).
  • Editing content is as easy as opening a new browser tab.
  • You get a website that drives real business results.

That's where I come in

As your guide, I listen to what you actually need (not what some tech person thinks you need), and then we figure out how to make it happen.

We can start by working together to create a clear project roadmap that outlines your goals, strategy, and priorities. This ensures you get proposals that actually address your specific needs rather than generic cookie-cutter solutions.

Or maybe you already know where you’re heading and just need help with those proposals sitting in your inbox? I'll explain them to you in plain language, identify potential red flags, and help you make informed decisions.

As the project advances, I can keep a bird's eye view on progress and monitor for any major obstacles that might emerge.

And after launch, I'll continue working with you to maintain and improve your website or app. There's always work to be done: updates, optimisations, and improvements based on how people actually use it.

Whether you need support with one specific challenge or want guidance for the whole journey, I can handle the strategic planning and technical execution so you can focus on your business.

About me

analog me

My name's Colin O'Brien, and I'm based in Brussels, Belgium, just a short walk from the European institutions.

I've been online for more than 30 years. During this time, I’ve watched the web evolve from the early days, when every website had a grey background and left-aligned text, to today's much more complex landscape.

I started as a graphic designer before co-founding one of the first internet service providers in Belgium, where I did everything from configuring networks and servers to building websites and doing phone support.

Since then, I've worked in tech and marketing, launched a startup, and developed countless websites and apps as a freelancer, contractor, and consultant. Needless to say, I've seen it all, sometimes repeatedly (looking at you, hype cycle).

From the dotcom boom to the mobile revolution to today's AI fever, I've learned not just to keep pace, but to distinguish what's genuinely useful from what's just noise. And I've helped many people do the same along the way.

My mission is simple: make the internet work for people, not against them.

So, what's Particle Slam?

Particle Slam is just the fancy name I use for my consulting practice. My real name is quite common and hard to search for online.

Over the years, I've worked with many businesses. Here's the obligatory logo wall :
